Welcome[]

So, following the spirit of Justin and Kekai, I've decided to do a Games/Challenge TV show that contestants will comepete in for the prize of a lifetime: A spot on the Gamemaker panel.

Rules []

  • There will be 10 (ten) contestants, divided into two PERMANENT¹ teams. Teams will be randomized.
  • Each round, there will be a different arena related challenge, and each person will get an individual score based on how well they do according to the scoring rules.
  • In each challenge each team member can earn their team up to 5 points per category. (Unless otherwise stated)
  • The team with the most points is safe, the team with the least points is going to instant elimination.
  • Instant elimination will result in one team member going home. Except for special rounds where more than one goes home.
  • Instant elimination will be explained more in detail later.
  • You will submit your answers/tasks through a document. I'll post the link when I post the challenge. This way only I see your answers.
  • When only 4 contestants are left, you will be competing individually.

¹I lied. You're being shuffled.

Round 1[]

The Challenge[]

Welcome contestants! We hope to bring you another amazing series of Arena Hunters! Our chosen contestants have come together to fight for the ultimate prize. A chance at sitting in the Gamemaker's room, behind the desk, controlling the next Hunger Games.

Lets get into it shall we?

Your first task is simple.

Let me set the stage for you.

It's the 100th Hunger Games. The Gamemakers are out of ideas. President Snow can't come up with anything. They have come to you, asking you create a theme for the Quell. It needs to be special, something never seen before. You will be judged in the following categories: Originality, Creativity, and Realism. I'll leave you with that.

Good luck contestants.

"As a reminder to the districts that even together they could not overthrow the Capitol, no alliances will be allowed throughout the games. Any tribute who tries to help out another via trading, leaving anonymous gifts or anything of the sort will be executed on the spot. The tribute who they are helping will also be eliminated, to show that those who simply take and do not give back must be punished. This will also go towards the tributes who try to tame any of the mutts. They must all prove their worth and that they can work on their own strengths and weaknesses without utilizing the skills of the others to successfully complete their schemes and plans."

Interesting Quell theme. I was impressed with your overall originality. I could've seen this playing a part in a real Games. I would've liked a little more detail into the specifics of it, but overall, you left a good impression.

"The theme I present is 'Underground'. The arena is, well, a system of underground caves and tunnels. Some are wide and spacious, some are narrow.

The Cornucopia is located in the heart of the underground. Surrounding the Cornucopia are dead-end tunnels, which is where the tributes start.

In order to survive, tributes must have navigation skills and must possess the capability of finding a way out of the underground."

Nice to see a theme not relating to the tributes. However the full idea isn't very clear. I do like the originality and the realism of this theme though.

The twist for the 100th Quarter Quell:

"For each Capitol Citizen that died in the rebellion two rebels were killed, for the 2 tributes that get reaped from each District, four will get reaped from each District."

The twist will be that four tributes from each District will be reaped. The four tributes will then be taken to a small arena, where they will have fight to the death, there could be two male victors, two female victors or a male and female. The two victors of the District duel will then be taken to the Capitol for the main arena."

This theme was somewhat confusing at first. But after clearly reading a second time, I love it. It seems very fitting to the nature of the Capitol and I could see this theme happening. The individual arenas with only 4 tributes per arena seems very ... busy. I do appreciate the creativity. It does sort of mimic the 50th Quell, but hey, double the number of Games, double the number of tributes I guess.

"The Dog Games"

These games will have the regular amount of tributes. Each tribute will get a dog, each dog similar in size and shape. There is a difference between the dogs however. Each dog is limited to the abilities of the tribute. For example if the tribute cannot climb trees, then the dog will not be able to. These abilities are tracked by a neuro-sensor that tracks the ability of the tributes. Then mutt makers from District fourteen will add these abilities into the dog. The dog is allowed to be used to make kills and to kill other dogs. Once the dog is killed, the tribute will die with a very strong electric shock in the tracker in their arm. If the tribute is killed without the dog being killed, the dog may join up with another tribute. However if the new dog is killed, the tribute will still be able to to live. Only if your original dog is killed, you will be dead. When a dog switches owner when the original is dead, the dog does not change its abilities. If a not original dog is killed, the tribute will not die, as long as their original dog is still alive. These dogs are specially bred to stay within range of the tribute and not wander away. They also are bred not to get sick. These dogs are able to climb trees and can do anything that the owner can.

This was a very ... interesting idea. It seems well thought out, but very ... specific ... to the dog theme, which sort of takes away from the idea of the Quell. I like how you explained the dog's and how they work so well, very in detail. I was decently surprised. However, the realism of this didn't seem as if it were there at all. The whole "your dog dies you die" thing and the tributes "adopting other dogs" were a little off the mark for me.

The 100th Annual Hunger Games had a twist of not double tributes, but triple the tributes! Another twist that was added in was that two tributes from all the districts had to be victors, but it doesn't matter what gender they were, so some would have two females, some with two males, and some with one for each gender. With triple the tributes, the gamemakers decided on triple the threats. There will be three areas, plus a small 800m diameter circle for the cornucopia. The first area is a tropical island that is quite immense. There's plenty of bug-based mutts whhich inject poison into your system, and the natural disaster here is a tropical hurricane that wreaks havoc upon the area. The hurricane lasts for an hour, and the area rebuilds within an hour of the dissipation. The hurricane returns once every day. This area was based off the island of Guam. The second area is similar to the plains of southern Alberta, which is the location of the farmlands of District 10. This area's mutts are mainly bears and wolves. The natural disaster here returns every 12 hours starting on day 2, at 8 AM, and follows the rebuild structure of an hour like all the other areas. The natural disaster is an F4 tornado. The third and final area is similar to the desert. It has very hot temperatures that can kill within 16 hours if you have no water or cooling systems. The natural disaster here is a sandstorm that returns every 6 hours. It isn't very severe, but can blind and suffocate you if you don't properly block your airwaves and eyes. There are safe zones of oasises here that are perfectly safe to drink from, and no sand will fly within 50 meters of the entrances. This is the only safe area to get water from other than a lake on the edge of the island and the cornucopia.

At first, I felt this theme was too similar to the 50th Games, but as I read on, it grew on me some. Your descriptions of the arena were detail, so that was nice. I like the disasters and the arena regeneration. This ended up being one of my top favorites. An original idea, very creative, and was very realistic.

Using District 3's superb gadgets and whatnot, the Capitol will design an evil clone for every tribute that is in the arena. The clone is the exact opposite of the original person. For example, the clone of a bloodthirsty career would be nice and caring etc.. The clones weaknesses are the original tributes' strengths and vice versa. Original tributes can be killed by any other original tribute and their clone. Clones can be killed by only their original. If a original is killed while the clone is still alive, the clone also gets murdered by the Capitol.

Very interesting idea. I would've liked to see how the Capitol decided this theme. Sort of like "In order to remind all the districts that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the Capitol, each district reaped their tributes from their existing pool of victors." for the 75th Quell and like Haven did for her theme. Just a side thought. Anyway, I think the rules regarding how to kill the tributes/clones were confusing and in the end only weighed you down. Overall, interesting plot.

In this Quarter Quell, there will be the regular amount of tributes. However, in the beginning 45 minutes of the games, none of the tributes may leave the Cornucopia as a force field will be set up around it. Once this time limit is up, they may exit into the rest of the arena. At midnight that night, a part of the arena, either the Desert, the Savannah, the Mountains, or the Rain Forest, will be closed off from the rest of the arena for twenty-four hours, starting from midnight. This will trap all the tributes inside the chosen portion of the arena using a force field. The next midnight, another portion will be chosen, and the previous lifted. This process will continue until four remain. Then mutts will chase the remaining tributes into the Cornucopia, the force field being removed when five became four. Once the remaining tributes arrive at the Cornucopia, a force field will come over the Cornucopia and the tributes must fight until one remains as the lone victor. One must note that the mutts will attempt to kill the tributes as they are being chased into the Cornucopia, and if three tributes die before they make it back to the Cornucopia, the Games will end with it's Victor.

This theme reminded me of my 77th Annual Games, and sort of the IV Games of mine. Both of which used force fields and only opened/closed after a certain number of tributes were dead. Anyhow, I liked that this theme had NOTHING to do with the tributes, as all the other ideas did, and the cannon ones did as well. As I told Aaron, I would've liked to see the Capitol's explanation for this theme. I like the explanations of the arena and how the theme ties into the ending and could potentially affect who the victor is.

The tributes are categorized based on their horoscopes. There will also be two hired tributes from the Capitol for the extra horoscope (Ophiuchus). The groups are in 2 and you are the only one who knows your teammate (meaning that the teams are private to cause suspicious on one another as the hired tributes). The hired tributes, though, are sponsored by the Capitol and is given massive rewards for one kill per day. If they found out who the hired ones are, the hired tributes automatically got killed, as the games gone back to normal. Speaking out your teammates name will cause death on the tribute.

This theme was my least favorite. Not only did it not seem very realistic, but failed to impress. It is original, which is good, but that's all it has going for it in my opinion

Score: 9/15

As a twist, I have two ideas. Firstly, I think each tribute will have a mutt(ation) as a pet of sorts - a helper, with special abilities or powers. Each differ from one another. From a Capitol view, this signifies how in the Dark Days, mutations were extremely valuable and helped bring the Capitol to victory. Giving Tributes seemingly higher odds, this also gives off the impression that the Capitol is a loving, caring capital city. But it also means betting is relevant to more tributes, and the Capitol will earn higher profit from it. From a viewer standpoint, having assistant mutts also means having double the amount of blood and deaths.

Secondly, after a set amount of time (I was thinking maybe around every 36 hours), a natural disaster strikes the whole arena, and changes the environment of it completely. So, if the ground began as a desert, and an earthquake was the disaster, mountains or canyons could form. The purpose of this is to test tributes survival skills. It also attempts to make the outcome more unpredictable as Career tributes, often victors, often train solely with weaponry and this means betting fields will be wider, again, giving the Capitol more money. A tributes' assisting mutt will help them survive. The 36 hour mark means Tributes would be struck with the disaster whilst sleeping one day, and in the middle of the day the next, being unpredictable or at the least, meaning tributes work out the system slower. The panic of waking up in a Tsunami adds to the scene and the viewing experience.

Another one of my favorites. This was sort of the effect I think Echo was going for, but you perfected the mistakes she made. I think a theme like this would have the Capitol is an uproar with excitement. Very original, creative, and very realistic. I love how you gave reason to the theme and described it so well.

As it is 100 years since the enactment of the Hunger Games, the entire games is basically the "deadliest party of the century" with huge feasts occurring every single day, taking out the cornucopia bloodbath. In order to fulfill "the more the merrier" sentence about a typical party, double of the tributes are sent into the arena, but the final two tributes that displayed the best show at this party will be declared victors. In these games, the tributes start with nothing, but by "partying" their way to the top, a tribute could receive supplies that would last them a lifetime in the district though. However, every person must attend every party every single day in order to pick off the weakest tributes until only the two 2 strongest remain.

This theme felt like a few Game Makers got drunk at a party and came up with the idea of a big, bloody party. THere was little sense of originality since the theme partially relates to the 50th Games. However, I can see the humor in the theme and appreciate that. I like the idea of a daily feast to keep the action going. Another idea the Capitol crazies would like.

Jack and Billie!

You two will be competing to stay in the competition. Instead of holding a vote, you two will compete in another competition. Submissions must be posted in the comments.

For the first round, the competition is basically aimed to help who ever goes on.

In 3-5 sentences, state why you deserve to stay in the competition. Do not go over 3-5 sentences, or under, you will be instantly eliminated.

(Note: After the first round, the instant elimination will be more like mini games, that may or may not relate to arenas.)

From this moment, you have 12 hours. Don't waste it.

Round 2[]

The Challenge[]

Welcome back contestants to Round 2! Congratulations to Billie who survived Instant Elimination. This round, the competition will be heating up. You will each be given the chance to earn 5 points in four categories, making a total of 20 points.

Now, I assume you wish to know the task at hand?

It's simple. You have been given the layout of the arena for the next Hunger Games. There is only one issue. The Game Makers can't come up with any muttations to stock the arena with. So you will do just that. You will be creating a muttation that directly relates to the arena.

Link to submit entry.

You all have 24 hours. Do not disappoint. The instant elimination round is much different this time.

Mutt Name: Fjord

This mutation is a monster that used to be human once upon a time. But, after extensive lab testing, these mutations were designed to be fish-human hybrids.

Like the average fish, a Fjord has scales that cover their entire body, but their body shape resolves those of a human. They're cold-blooded creatures who prefer hiding in the depths of the water, waiting to drag their victims down to their deaths. However, if a Fjord even slightly creeps their head above the water, they will instantly die. But exactly how do these creatures drag their victims to the bottom of the ocean? Their voices, of course. Having their eyesight taken from them, a Fjord relies on their hearing and voices in order to feast on victims with their inverted teeth and gills that look something beyond human.

Strengths: A Fjord has extremely strong teeth that act like iron clamps as they catch their victims. Since these creatures are mainly water-based, they are adept swimmers that like to lie in the bottom of the ocean. Another one of their weapons, their voice, is used to lure their victims into the water thinking that the voice is harmless. But, what they can't see is the Fjord about to claim their life. As well, Fjords have excellent hearing. Unlike some tributes wish to believe, Fjords can hear nearly anything.

Weaknesses: Even though the Fjord has only two main weaknesses, they are major weaknesses that make this mutation vulnerable. One, a Fjord must have their body fully immersed in the water, otherwise they will die. If a tribute could cause a Fjord to come above the surface, the mutation will die. The second major weakness of the Fjord is that it is perpetually blind. A Fjord cannot see anything, but what it lacks in sight, it makes up in hearing. A tribute can fool a Fjord by making noise, leaving the Fjord to believe that there is a victim on the surface, when instead, it is simply nothing.

Inspiration: The Fjord is a human/fish/Siren hybrid with the regular eyes, mouth and body shape of a human, hybrided by a Siren for it's tempting voice and a Fish for it's scales, gills, cold-bloodedness and unusual teeth.

Your muttation was pretty good and did well in all but the originality department. To me it resembles the siren too much which was kinda boring. Other than that, I liked the Fjord.

Score: 16/20

Batman

The mutation for this arena is a siren. There are several of these sirens in the arena. Each of these sirens has a singing voice that if hits a certain note, can cause any tribute to hear it to have hallucinations, a minor headache, and some degree of being mind controlled, which causes the affected tribute to have an ultimate desire to kill themselves. Not only these things, but if the siren is seen, the siren has the image of a close friend or family member drowning due to the hallucinations. If not under the hallucinations, the siren is a much more horrific image. It has wispy yellowish-grey hair, the body of a mean and old witch, and a very strong tail. But don't let it's appearance fool you. Her tail is strong and can drown tributes by strangling them and dragging them far from any land. This tribute is a hijacked human girl, with elements of a Striped Marlin, one of the fastest swimmers in the world. When it is not swimming around, she lives in the cove, where tributes should be wary. While this mutt has many strengths, it also has weaknesses as well. The siren cannot defend herself very well, partially due to her horrible sight, and partially due to her weak upper body. If caught in a fight where her tail is seriously injured, there is no way she will be able to swim and she will die. Her tail is her main strength, so therefore if it is ruined, she will only have her voice, which causes tributes to come near her and let them drown her. The two ways a tribute will be able to avoid her mind controlling abilities is either A) They try and block out her voice by drowning their mind with thoughts, or B) Block out sound by covering your ears. If a tribute does one of these two things and injures the siren's tail, they will be able to kill her.

Your muttation and Emrys were much alike, and I have the same opinion on both. I liked all but your lack of originality, but you still did well in relation to arena, realism, and you did OKAY in the creativity section.

Score: 16/20

Billie

My idea for a mutt that relates to the arena above is a water eel.

When tributes see the eel underwater, they will see nothing but a snake-like creature and a pair of blood red eyes. The eel will be around the same length/size as it's normal counterpart.

The main features of the eel mutt is how silent and proficient they are in water.

They can simply coil themselves around a tribute's leg and drag them to the bottom, both drowning and killing them. Most tributes wouldn't know about it until it's too late, due to the silent nature of the eel.

However, in terms of speed, the eel mutt is the same as it's normal counterpart. It can also be killed easily, but that's only possible if the tributes catch them first.

This muttation was a close second in terms of my favorites. You managed to hit all of the categories right on. The only thing I would've changed is the addition of more description of the actual mutt.

Score: 17/20

This mutt is called The Piercer. The mutt has the body of a snake, and is very small. The mutt is designed for water and land would kill it, as it needs constant moisture. The mutt has a row of sharp fangs, that hold nauseating venom, a few bites could cause a tribute to drown. This mutt is very weak alone and in a group it is incredibly dangerous, they are drawn to the smell of blood and together they can rip tributes flesh out. The serpent like body was inspired by the sea theme and the snake like aspects were inspired by the desert.

The Piercer was an interesting submission. I do wish there had been more description to its looks, but I loved the originality, the creativity, and how it related well to the arena.

Score: 16/20

Aaron

Huts: A tribe of natives whos fafces are covered with masks, when they find a tribute, they circle him/her and then close in for the kill. They work in groups.

Island: In the mainland's there will be cobra's, though easy to see because of the flat landscape, these snakes are programmed to slither as fast as the average tribute speed. Their poison can only be cured by sponsor's sponsors.

In 1 of the 3 caves will live a ton of bats, in a swarm they attack the tribute, trying to crawl into every open part of the tribute's body. (Nose. mouth, and ears.) This will end up choking them tp death.

In the cove and ocean a creature sort of like the Loch Ness Monster will rule that part of the arena. It's long neck can stretch as long as 1/4th of the arena and can kill tributes witout body armor easily. Its head is easily cut off.

As the prompt strictly stated to submit A muttation, and you submitted three, you have been given an automatic zero. Sorry my friend.

Score: 0/20

The 84th Hunger Games' mutts were very special. There were three types; a humanoid mutt for the Tiki Huts; a shark-based mutt for the water; and an island mutt, which is unique, creative and realistic, but not entirely original. Hear me out, though.

The Tiki Hut Mutt sample, as I've grown to calling it, is very human in build. It wears a piece of clothing similar to a hula skirt, but made much longer and out of palm tree leaves. It also wears a tribal mask, which is designed to scare the tributes senseless. Their weapons are tribal spears, made of titanium and dipped in poison. The shaft is painted brown to make it seem more tribal and less Capitol-like. They're programmed to simply injure the tribute enough so that the poison can finish the job. However, if they're continued to be attacked after this, they can and will fight back. Their chest and stomach are fully exposed, and their weaknesses are exactly like a human's.

The shark mutt resides in the watery areas of the arena. There are few of them, only 8 to be exact, but they are deadly and tough to kill. The shark's main DNA strands are of a Megalodon, so they're huge and naturally more agressive than the other breeds of sharks we experimented with. Their teeth were plated with iron, and they can cut through almost anything. The only two ways to kill them is to either throw a weapon or shoot an arrow into its mouth or to attack anywhere underneath it. They will stay 10 meters away from the cove, cornucopia and the beaches of the islands. Everywhere else is free game for them. The mutts are released at noon on day 2. This mutt was, in my opinion, the least realistic of the bunch.

The island mutts are known as the Sand People. They are similar to the Jawa of the popular pre-Panem movie series Star Wars. They aren't deadly, but they will shout and scream and make very loud noises around a tribute. They will flee if attacked by anything, and will stop making loud noises, except shouts of pain when injured. They are a nuisiance and may drive a tribute insane. They are dressed in a hooded beige-coloured robe, and are prominent around the caves. The only island they do not reside on is Haven Island, which is the only safe area for tributes to not be attacked by any mutts, as a Tiki warrior can be led towards the Cornucopia.

As the prompt strictly stated to submit A muttation, and you submitted three, you have been given an automatic zero. Sorry Teka. (The shark mutt was my favorite.)

Dolphin Mutts

This mutt takes the form of a dolphin. However its much more violent nature lays deep inside. The dolphin mutt acts like a shark. If it opens up its mouth, there are a bunch of sharp shark teeth inside. The dolphin mutt wiill do anything to kill the tribute. However this mutt cannot go on land, limiting its attack space.

I feel as if not much thought was put in here. I liked your utilization of the dolphin and its transformation from a calm creature to an evil mutt. Next time put in some more time and creativity and you'll have something awesome.

Score: 14/20

The mutt will stay hidden in the water, and will attack a tribute when they come in the water. There are multiple of these mutts, spread out in the water." "With the given arena, my idea of a specialised Mutt would be something capable on sand and in water, possibly even in trees. The first animal to come to mind... was a snake.

Slithering at 30m, this reptile is massive; a body profile of a cobra, this mutt can swim, travel over land and climb trees. Spitting venom for 10 metres, the snake's venom causes blisters on contact; it doesn't need to be fatal if 'prey' can be dragged underwater to drown or be left to scorch in the sun. Getting into the bloodstream and paralysis sets in. My mutts body is muscular and leathery-skinned, but streamlined, and with a tail tapering into a thin whip, this snake is armed at both ends of its body. The skin provide little protection from slicing, stabbing and piercing. Its eyes are vulnerable along with the rest of the snakes head, but rising metres above its enemies the head is hard to get to. Unable to breathe underwater, the snake must come to the surface, making it visible - and its size slows it down considerably, on land and in water. However, the snakes length easily enables it to pluck tributes from the lower branches of trees, and the huts residing in the water on one side of the arena. Another ability is the snakes ability to, with eye contact, look absolutely beautiful to whoever looks. This relates to the arena - the more beautiful (a group of tropical islands) it is, the more places danger can lurk.

Once again you've made my favorite of the round. I liked the relation to both land and sea, and the original use of the snake/serpent. Well done.

Score: 20/20

Dive-Bombers: These mutts are basically a combination of seagulls and pelicans. By appearance, they have the same colours and build of a seagull, varying in size. They all have a black tip on their tail feather and grey coating their backs. White plumage appears on their necks and heads. However, their bills are similar to that of a pelicans with a hook on the end and a very large gullet.

The pelican DNA was taken from a specific species - The Brown Pelican. They often dive into the waters to catch fish and thus this was used so they would also target swimming tributes. In order for them to be able to escape after the plunge, their feathers are waterproofed so that it repels water and allows them to rise whilst remaining relatively dry.

Annoying as they are, seagulls have the tendency to swoop down on people hoping to steal their food. To develop their aggressiveness, they were starved and then released upon people with lots of food. The two most hostile ones were separated and mated together to produce more hostile offspring. It eventually grew to the point where they would naturally dive-bomb into a human, thus killing them. This was how they got their name.

A major weakness of them is that they're not that intelligent and don't know when to quit. They are more likely to keep attacking a tribute until either of the forces are dead. This is most likely a weakness that came with it's brutality that it was made for. Another bad side is that they are solitary unless they have a mate. They were meant to work together, but the mutts kept killing each other over the newly obtained food. They're also not the most stealthy of birds, being very loud with their calls.

I was literally dying laughing at the thought of pelicans dive bombing an old lady on the beach. Anyway, I liked the use of two animals to create the mutt and how you created a flying mutt. Well done my dear Haven.

This arena will mainly be made up of ice. There are polar bears roaming around the arena and there also are whales, seals and all of the arctic animals. The temperature is ranged from -20 to +3.

Every day, the arena will get warmer. Therefore the ice will melt. This symbolizes global warming.

The middle of the arena is made up of solid ground. This is where the cornocupia is located. This land is mainly covered up with snow. It snows here almost every day. This is about 400m in diameter.

Around the cornocupia, is ice. Every day, the ice will start to break apart as the arena heats up. It may snow here sometimes, but not daily. This is about 3 miles in diameter. There are seals here and polar bears. The water is frigid here, making it impossible to swim in.

The final area of the arena is forest. It has lots of spruce trees. The ground is covered with snow. In this area there are wolves here and the occasional polar bear. There may also be coyotes and other wild arctic animals.

This was the least impressive arena. I was intrigued at all if I'm being honest. For the most part it fits the theme, but coyotes aren't arctic animals. I live in Arizona with coyotes. I also didn't feel as the the whole "global warming" thing hit the ticket for me. You said the arena was solid ground, then it was breaking up? Overall, I felt as though you didn't put in much work.

Ah yes, the good ole Arctic Circle.

So, like the Arctic Circle itself, this arena is in an extremely large circular shape, with the entirety of the arena reaching a total diameter of 30 miles. Most of the Arctic Circle is barren wasteland, so the entire surface of the arena is cover in ice that is about 8 feet thick. Unlike the usual tundra however, the gamemakers were nice enough to produce a scattered pine forest for a good portion of the arena. Instead of starting in the middle of the arena however, each tribute starts on the edge of the arena with a pack filled with limited rations and scarce supplies.

Now, there is some interesting twists about this arena. One of these twists is that because Panem is still a major producer of global warming, the real ice caps are still rapidly melting. To simulate this effect in the arena, every night, the arena melts two miles from it's edges, causing unsuspecting deaths, leading any tribute that thinks they are far enough away from the rest of the world could have a surprisingly early end.

Also, to simulate the real Arctic temperatures, the arena is dropped to a constant temperature of -5 degrees Farenheit (or -20 degrees Celcius) with raging winds that blow across the entire arena day and night, causing snow to scatter in every which direction and trees to bend.

This arena may seem like the seventh circle of hell, but there is one positive aspect to the arena. In the middle of this dreaded arena, there is a building known as the Workshop, the only man-made shelter in the arena. Inside of this building, there is a variety of supplies that could fit any tribute's needs in this Arctic environment. But, like everything else in the arena, the Workshop is a ticking time bomb. After ten days of being in the arena, the Workshop will explode, but no sooner than after a simulation of a large, jolly man flying in some sort of contraption pulled by flying deer flew across the sky. At that moment in time, if a tribute is within a twenty foot radius of the Workshop better be praying or running because before they can scream for help, they'll be smushed to nothingness.

If any Gamemaker wanted to throw 24 tributes into the ultimate hellhole, then stop no further than this cold, windy arena affect by the curse of greenhouse gases.

This arena was a favorite of mine. You stayed true to the theme, but also stayed realistic (for the most part.) You were very original in your ideas, and still kept them original. The "global warming" bit was interesting. You'd think that'd make the Capitol see the government unfavorably, and make the Districts angry, and yet, that makes it even more perfect. Well done!

Before we start, I just want to say, thank you Capitol, for not eliminating me. I am in your debt...for now.

Anyways, on to it. The Arena was based off the Arctic circle, and is clearly a direct reference to the, well, "lore". I wanted to amuse the children of our lovely Capitolites, so I decided to include something a little special.

The arena is a harsh, snowy environment with consistent snow and ice plaguing the area. There are frozen rivers, but with some decent cracks in them. If a tribute does not take the time to pick up water during the bloodbath, they will likely die of dehydration before the twist kicks in.

There are small ice caves, some Inuit camps with a few weapons laying around, along with perpetually burning campfires as one of the only heat sources in the arena. In the caves, there's a minor heat retaining in there, but it won't be enough to survive without the proper clothing.

The little goodie for the kids that I mentioned is the 13 reindeer (if there's only 12, one is based off unluckiness) of Santa Claus. They are one of the two mutts located in the arena (the other will be chosen by the Mutt Gamemaker) and will target their enemies strategically, using numbers and high amounts of tactic.

The twist is very realistic. Global warming. During the time in the arena, the tributes will start off with bitter colds, perpetual blizzards, and horrific storms. However, at the final 10, when all are asleep, the arena will change. The rivers will completely thaw. The snowy places will become a lush tropics, and the arena will have changed into another altogether.

It seems as if the global warming idea is a recurring thing. Something I never expected. I liked that you used it in a different, interesting way by making the arena tropical. I will admit you fell short of my expectations as far as the inclusion of detail goes, but other than that, this arena seems up to par. I liked the Santa Claus piece, but is that exactly realistic? Meh, it's an interesting idea and the big fat man doesn't actually make an appearance him self. I loved that you described the muttation(s), that is a huge part of detail. You had a little muck up with the detail, but overall, I like.

So my idea for an Arctic Circle is two islands. But it's not just that basic.

The domed arena comprises of an inner island and an outer island of ice and snow. Both of the islands are circular shaped, the inner island being the smaller circle and the outer island being the larger circle.

The inner island is right in the center of the arena. The ice of the inner island is slowly breaking off piece by piece, so tributes do have a way of getting across to the island. That's if they manage to stay on the broken pieces of ice and get across without falling into the freezing cold water that separates the two islands.

On the inner island is the Cornucopia, which is an igloo made of solidified ice. The supplies are inside the igloo. The igloo inside is not spacious, however, so it will be harder for tributes to escape easily with supplies.

The outer island covers the rest of the arena. Unlike the inner island, ice isn't breaking off in pieces. The main part of the island seems like nothing but ice and snow, but in the further part of the island are mountains and large slopes of snow. They seem like good hiding places, but that will be until the muttations appear.

The water in between the two islands is dangerously cold and is capable of killing tributes in a matter of minutes, so tributes must swim quickly if they don't want to either perish in the water. But there is one advantage to the water: fish can be found there.

Tributes must use natural survival instincts in this arena. It's essential if they want to make it out alive.

This was my favorite arena. I honestly loved everything. You included the theme well, you strayed from the more common ideas, and you were creative. I only wish you had included what mutts were in the arena or something. But aside from that, you had everything that I was wanting. I think this may be my only perfect score.

The arena is incredibly cold, as is the arctic circle, that would be the first thing a tribute would notice from entering this arena. The cornucopia is located right in the middle, and the floor leading to it will be made of ice, giving the tributes an extra challenge to reach it.

The arena floor is mainly ice, but as a tribute progresses further away from the cornucopia it will become easier to control your movement.

The north eastern side of the arena is a freezing river, the water is crystal blue but is incredibly cold, it also holds a frozen waterfall where tributes can take refuge. The water is not safe for tributes to enter.

The south of the arena is a massive glacier, where it leads into a rocky mountain range is a tribute braves their way through it.

The east of the arena is also a river, but unlike the north eastern river this one has numerous blocks of ice floating around. This area contains small huts.

The arena is very confusing, game makers, inspired by the long days and short nights (vice versa) decided to confuse the tributes with inconsistent light and darkness.

NOTE: The only mutts are huge polar bears, which kill their victims with their enlarged claws .

Another interesting submission. I loved the random day/night cycle that's inconsistent. I was somewhat confused by your description of the arena, but I still got it (mostly.) I liked your inclusion of detail and muttations. Both things I wanted to see. I liked your originality of course, and that you stayed away from common ideas. Nicely done.

Arctic Circle Arena The Cornucopia - Classically, a horn-shaped, hollow metal structure with an entrance on one side. This year a cavern, sinking into the ground with multiple entrances, stalactites and stalagmites mixed in between the blades and weaponry inside. Radiating out from it, rocks form lines equidistant from each other and end past the tribute plates - and with an aerial view, a snowflake of rock, embedded in the soil, punctuates the ground surrounding it. As the tributes enter the arena, the ground is just rocky and brown. Cold, but no trace of ice or snow except in the cornucopia. As the bloodbath ends, a thunderstorm strikes the arena, raining freezing water, sleet ad icicles which dissolve and melt the rocky ground - and a few hours later, the land is completely transformed to an arctic scene. The storm has dissipated: Past the cornucopia, the ground is cold - well, if you can call it 'ground', as there is no rock or soil in the arena. A sparse forest goes East of the cornucopia, specialised to grow in ice. Elsewhere, lakes and pools litter the hilly ground - a clever tribute will think this is odd, and rightly so - some of these sources of water are boiling, and don't cool. Others are freezing cold. 'Land' is ice - thick in some places, thin in others - and if, God forbid, an earthquake hit the arena (hehehe), chaos would ensue. Frequent strong wind and heavy snow adds to the Arctic Circle theme. The cold of the arena could make for some boring deaths, so trackers ensure that a tributes body temperature stays high enough, though fluctuates for viewer entertainment - however, it won't be the cause of death. Mutts are common but adapted - for survival, and fighting.

The more I read on, the more I liked this arena. You described it very well, even if you did lack muttations or something that was extraordinary. I did like the storm concept for the beginning of the game. You stuck to the criteria for the most part. I'm pleased.

At first glance, the arena will appear to be a sweltering desert. Only sand dunes seem to be around and if the weather is blustery, a tribute could easily choke on the particles and also become temporarily blinded. On a more positive note, there are a few pools of water around the terrain. These will be hard to spot but they will relieve a tribute from dehydration. Quicksand traps are less common to be fair, but without help a tribute is highly unlikely to escape. There is, however, one spot that will guarantee some good protection: An oasis. Palm trees are provided around a pool of fresh water, aiding in cooling down the tributes. Coconuts are also plentiful to help replenish a tributes' health. The only downside is that any alliance that claims it as their territory will likely never give it up. This links to the Arctic circle as it is a tundra and deserts are basically a hotter and drier version of them.

However, there are several twists to the arena. Between 12pm and 12am, snow clouds will form in the air and snow will rain down, coating everything in the desert with snow. The previous grains of sand can be discovered if a tribute was to dig deep enough, but they won't feel as warm as it used to. Winds will also blow to create a colder atmosphere, freezing any bodies of water. The oasis may become a set of glaciers. Alongside this as a representation to global warming, some of the arena will melt away in the early hours of morning. By around 12pm, the desert will have risen from the winter wonderland. To make it harder for the tributes, the water levels will have decreased from the oasis and the pools. Everything that helped form the snow will vanish, but the arena will become a frozen wasteland the next day.

This arena confused me sorta. I understand how you were trying to relate the desert with the arctic, but it fell short for me. It wasn't horrid, but still not what I was wanting from this theme. You were original and creative, which I respect, but strayed from the theme and inclusion of a lot of detail. Also no muttations :(. But it's all good, I get what you were trying to do.

The Challenge[]

3 rounds later and here we are. Your task this time is simple.

The Game Makers have designed an arena, complete with mutts, an interesting theme, and now only one thing is missing. What will the tributes wear? Your job is to create it. You'll need to rely on words alone and describe the arena.

*Note: In order of submission. Emrys So, we are going on an African safari here in this arena, so the tribute outfit has a few main pieces:

The Safari Hat: Each tribute will receive a safari hat, each of them a different color according to district. These hats will block the protective rays of the sun at day while keeping their heads warm at night.

Special Cargo Pants: Every tribute is wearing cargo pants, keeping their legs warm at night. The legs of the cargo pants clip on and off, allowing them to be converted into shorts

Canvas Jacket: This is over the top of the tribute's t-shirt, each coat a different color according to district. These jackets allow a tribute to stay warm at night.

Plain T-Shirt: Underneath the cargo jacket is a thin t-shirt (or V-neck shirt for girls), since thick t-shirts can cause overheating during the day in the African desert.

Hiking Boots: The ultimate safari essential when hiking through flat terrain or rocky mountains. They keep your feet comfortable in any situation.

Knee High Socks: To protect from mutation bites during the day, and a way to keep your feet cozy at night. They're thin on the outside, but fuzzy on the inside.

Umm... if this is setting the bar, you've set the standards high. I absolutly loved this submission. You hit each of the categories right on the head. I like the African theme, as this Arena was themed after the continent of Africa. It was a very original idea and I loved the conversion from a warm outfit to something they can wear in the 115* F weather and not die of a heat stroke. Well done. You described it all well and I love the color based on District.

20/20

Billie

My idea as to what the tributes will wear in the arena is the following:

Female tributes will wear a safari-style dress. Each dress is a different colour, as a way of representing districts (so for example, the colour of the dress for the District 1 female tribute could be magenta whereas the dress for the District 7 female tribute could be dark green). The dress has sleeves which can easily be taken off, so the dress is both long and short sleeved.

Male tributes will wear a safari-style shirt and pants. The shirt, like the dress, is a different colour for each district. The shirt also has sleeves which can be taken off, so the shirt is both long and short sleeved, depending on the tribute.

The footwear for the tributes is leather boots that are the same colour as the shirt/dress.

But the Capitol isn't entirely cruel. Tributes will also wear a safari jacket, which is not the same colour as the shirt/dress but will be another way of identifying which tribute is from which district as the district number of the tribute will be on the back of the jacket (for example, a District 4 tribute will have a cyan shirt/dress and boots and the back of their jacket will have a large 4 on it).

And the final addition to the outfit is a leather waist bag, a stereotypical feature of a safari outfit. The waist bag will not be the same colour as the shirt/dress and boots, however.

I'll be honest, this submission wasn't my favorite. I was legit confused with the "safari-style dress." I feel like that'd make it hard for the female tributes. You did okay with the relation to the arena, and I like the safari idea. I like the labeling of their District. And the waist bag would also make it harder for the tributes. But, it is original and I like your creative thinking.

The Arena wear for the Tributes is suited to protect the tributes from the harsh conditions of this arena.

They will wear a tank top, this is mainly for tributes to be able to stand the humidity of the rainforest and the heat of the arena. The colour corresponds to the District.

They will also be equipped with a dark green cargo jacket, this is so tributes will be able to survive the cold nights in the desert but it is not waterproof, so wearing this in the rain forest is not wise. The jacket is made of a tough material, allowing tributes to be protected from the harsh conditions of the arena.

They will wear cargo pants (idk what American's say XD i meant trousers not underwear). They are a beige and good camouflage in the mountain, desert and savanna. They are like the cargo jacket and they have the ability to protect tributes from bumps and bruises, and are very hard to rip. They fall down to the tributes ankles.

The final aspect of the tributes are black leather boots. They are simple and reach up to the tributes ankles, they are waterproof and tough like the rest of the arena wear.

The arena wear is just to give tributes good camouflage and protection from the harsh environment of this years arena.

I love this one as well. I like the consideration of the rainforest AND the desert. You were creative in your design. I liked the tank top being underneath the jacket so they can be cool and warm. I liked the protective boots as well. Nice touch.

The tributes' outfits will consist of a light jumpsuit with a beige-white colour, in order to allow at least some minor camoflauge within the savannah. It's non-clingy, which allows them (the tributes) to remove it with ease, or them having to worry about it giving them a carpet burn-no, it's not ruggy, but you should understand what I mean; it won't give them rashes; pain etc. should they remove it. It's made of a blocking material which will make sure that the rain doesn't affect them too much in the rainforest section, and is also decently comftorable for walking or running long distances. The tributes have a circle entouring (that's a word, right?) the number on their back, which corresponds to their district number. The number and circle are in black, however, to allow reading of it with decent ease.

The differences within the suits is that the female suits are slightly larger than the male suits, to account for breast size and thigh size, a couple minor details that were taken into consideration early on within the design process. The male suits also have a slight difference as well, which is a small grey slash among the numbers on the back. This signifies that the tribute was a male, if only the suit remains after, per say, a lion mutt eats multiple tributes from a certain district. This allows us to know which tributes were killed if there was 4 per district, for example, and two suits were left behind. If both have that grey slash if there was 2 males and 1 female remaining, we know both males have died, and the female still lives.

Very interesting concept, and by far the most original. I like the "slash" idea to distinctify the gender. I do feel the tributes would have a hard time staying warm if it were to get cold at night. And no footwear was mentioned. But aside from that, I think you have a good idea.

Score: 16/20

Cal

This arena looks pretty hot. But with the temperature dropping at night, this arena wear needs a lot of very different jobs.

The top half - A loose, grey, very slightly reflective, long sleeved shirt. Also quite stretchy, but doesn't stick to the tributes body. This means that in the day, the coloration absorbs less sunlight than a black top, and the long sleeves shade the tribute's arms from sunburn, also covering more body area at night, to insulate warmth. The top stays away from the body, and the slightly reflective quality adds to keeping sunlight off the tributes body. The top is also waterproof on the outside, to prevent problems arising in the rainforest section.

For the bottom half, loose grey tracksuit bottoms - these again shade the tribute's body, insulating at night and being quite cool during the day. Also waterproof, this item allows more ease in the rainforest. For the mountains, the tracksuit bottoms are also stretchy, to allow easier climbing.

These qualities above should (hopefully) prevent any boring deaths, though the clothing offers no protection from attack, so bloody deaths will be as common as usual and viewer entertainment will be as usual.

You forgot footwear, and any distinction from District to District. You nearly earned a perfect score. I really liked the long-sleeve shirt/tracksuit mixture. I can picture it well and I think this is the best idea for keeping tributes warm at night, and cool in the day. Well done.

This year, the arena outfit was mainly themed around a desert. The tributes wear button-up shirts with sleeves that fall to their elbows. The shirt’s colour will be white in colour so less sunlight is absorbed. The fabric is cotton because it is more effective at keeping you cool and preserving body moisture than synthetic fibres.

The jackets are tanned in colour with white numbers on the back to show the district. This time the sleeves will be long rather than medium or short, falling to the wrist. This will protect the tributes better from sunburn. They are made from linen because it doesn’t absorb too much water or sweat, which is an advantage because the tributes won’t feel as heavy whilst walking. They’re light in weight and will breathe nicely. Despite the length, they will keep the tributes cool in their desert climate. The jackets also use a zip, which when done up will keep the tributes slightly warmer during the nights. The two layers will also add to their warmth at night whilst preserving their cool during the day. Like the jacket, the trousers tributes will wear are made from linen, tan in colour and are at full-length. This is for the same reasons as listed above.

As for footwear, tributes will wear hiking boots complete with a white pair of thick socks. Not only do hiking boots have a good grip, but sand is less likely to make contact with the tribute’s foot. The socks may not seem that important, but without them the tribute will get blisters on their feet from the sweat and all the walking they’ll have to do.

The only accessory the tributes will get is Summer Afternoon hat to keep the sun out of their eyes and to protect the back of their necks.

Overall a good concept. Even though you said the double layers won't get too hot, you never said how. I think these particular outfits would make the tribute sweat a little during the day. Overall, not a bad concept.

Team Plutarch is victorious. Team Seneca, all 3 of you will be fighting for survival.

Instant Elimination[]

As I stated above, all three members of Team Seneca, Teka, Billie, and Haven, will be competing against each other for victory.

A voting will NOT take place. Instead, you'll have a mini-competition.

Your task? You are to create an image. Something that symbolizes the Rebellion. Whether it be a rebellious lunaii, a cool symbol, or a catch phrase, IT MUST BE ORIGINAL. Basically don't use something already made. I don't mind the inclusion of the mockingjay symbol or one of the slogans in existence, but make it your own and make it unique.

12 hours have passed. Billie was the only one to submit an image. Thus, she is the winner by default. Teka and Haven? I'm afraid this does mean both of you will be leaving the competition. Farewell friends.

Round 5[]

The Challenge[]

Well, looky there. We're down to the Top 4 for our competition. As we enter the semi-finals and near the finale, I wish you all luck. You'll most likely need it.

What is the Hunger Games without Claudius Templesmith? The answer is simple: Boring. So, in hopes of making this years Hunger Games better, the Head Gamemaker wants you to hire an announcer.

Your challenge? Describe the announcer. How does he act? Is he funny, annoying, loud, calm, ugly, weirdly attractive, old, fat? Etc... Tell me about his personality, maybe a signature phrase or saying. Then describe him. Tell me of all his physical features. And then the third part is the funnest. Make a lunaii of him. I will give you one hint. Remember the Capitol is known for it's crazy, oddly dressed citizens. This announcer would be one of those Citizens, keep that in mind. Anyway, you have 24 hours. Don't dissapoint. And if you didn't notice, you're no longer in teams. It's every man for himself.

Payston Borealis

The Hunger Games is the survival of the fittest. But then again, there's always the dark horses. Sometimes those who you think have no chance at all end up winning. But then again, you could choose to kill everybody off so neither wins.

Payston borealis

Payston, at first, appears to be a charming, optimistic and handsome man. His voice is noted to be deep yet soothing, especially by tributes. However, others may find it creepy.

Truthfully, Payston is one person who you wouldn't want to anger. He's an intelligent psychopath, adept in manipulation and deception. He is also both power-hungry and bloodthirsty. His talent in the two skills listed above secretly aided him in his rise to the position of announcer, enabling him to watch what he enjoys: bloodshed and violence. He has no remorse and doesn't care about the tributes at all.

Payston has raven black hair with blood red streaks. He is around 5'10 and is of a lanky build. He also has very dark eyes, which appear to be black from a distance, and he has some stubble on his face. His surname, Borealis, is incredibly ironic as Payston isn't colourful at all, he's dark and twisted.

He is normally dressed in dark clothing and has a tendency to drink too, but due to his nature, he has a high alcohol tolerance.

I love the idea of a dark spirited announcer. The cliche on a bright, peppy announcer is by far the most common, so it's nice to see some change. His description, lunaii, and personality all tie in well together. I love the irony of his last name, well thought. The one thing blocking you from a perfect score was Payston's seemingly limitablility to the bloodbath. Past that, I don't know that he'd fare so well with the Capitol citizens or the president. But you still did pretty good. Well done Billie!

Tarquin Hercules
AH Announcer

"If the Hunger Games were a food, I would only ever eat one meal."

Large in every way, Hercules' personality is outgoing, cheery and loud, and his laugh emanates through any room he resides in. Not the sharpest tool in the box by any means, Tarquin however surpasses many with his social expertise and intellect, able to work his way out of any situation and convince people into anything - whether this is down to talent, him or the citizens of the Capitol, it is unknown. With a wide smile always painted across his face, Tarquins' fans are solely Capitol citizens - he has too little to worry about to be relatable to for District inhabitants, though despite their thoughts he never means bad.

Reflected in his personality, Tarquins' appearance is... large. When his mouth moves, ripples move down his thick neck and tiered chin, and standing over 6 feet tall, he isn't a wispy person. With stark white hair and a green tuft hanging over his forehead, a tattoo on his left cheek, emerald facial hair and matching eyes ever warming, Tarquin fits into a crowd of Capitol people, radically over-preened for the likes of outlying districts. His booming voice is soft and deep, and although maybe lacking in the appearance department, his fans are more fond of his persona than physique.

Tarquin is for sure an announcer! I can picture him perfectly and I can imagine his voice perfectly. Well done in the description department. And your phrase for him made me laugh out loud, I think it ties it all together. I can't find anything to complain about, besides the fact I was missing a sense of originality, however, I did not ask for that, so I can't complain. Well done Cal!

Darion Chiron

"The blood of tributes is something to fill our golbets"

-Darion Chrion's phrase just before the bloodbath

DarionCharion

Darion Chiron has been the announcer for the games for three years. He is charismatic and lovable, never one to hide his opinions on tributes. He is very intelligent and uses this advantage to inform his vast audience. He is good looking and charming, and the main basis of his huge amount of popularity is his appearance, and he gets a lot of support from his female fans. The tributes dislike him, as his voice is mocking and optimistic as it echoes across the arena.

He has glossy black hair, it is quite long and is usually tied in a ponytail. He has golden bangs. He usually has an arrogant smile and his lips are glossed a peach color. He has honey green eyes, usually lines with golden eyeliner. He is slightly overweight but his handsome face makes up for this. He is very good looking and usually wears Roman style clothing.

Overll, I did like Darion. I love that he is opinionated and goes with the classic Roman theme. His appearance and lunaii fit well together, and once again, I love the catchphrase. Your downfall? Darion Chiron has been the announcer for the games for three years. I did state it would be a NEW announcer, thus they would've never been the announcer. Gotta read the fine print Maxy. But that's okay, I still did enjoy him. Well done Max!

The Final[]

The Challenge[]

5 rounds and it all comes down to Max and Cal. As this is the finale, you're going to be put to the test. You're both going to take a spin in the Gamemaker chair. You will be tasked heavily in this final round.

You must: Describe a deciduous forest themed arena.

You MUST describe the arena in full detail, complete with AT LEAST 1 muttation, but no more than 3 mutts.

You must give a description of what they will wear, males AND females.

Your ideas need to be original, creative, and well described. I need to be able to design this arena and all its components if I wanted to. They need to also be realistic. The arena would be for Districts 0-15. The arena can be any appropriate shape, size or layout, but all of these components need to stick to the theme.

As I do realize this will be a tough task, you have two days. Good luck finalists!

Results[]

Wow, this round was by far the hardest to judge, as I am sure it was hard to create. I won't copy and paste your submissions this time. I will post my judge comments and then reveal the winner.

Max The best part of your submission was your Arena Wear. It fit well with the given theme. Everything else? It all sort of fell short for me. Your arena, described VERY well, felt more like a Halloween theme to me than deciduous. It started off well and the became more spooky and less foresty. Your two mutts were written very well. Although your "Chirper" mutt didn't hit the mark for me. The "Stalker" mutt felt very zombieish to me and furthered the Halloween vibe. All of it was well described, but was lacking terribly in theme.

Cal Tbh, from the moment I began to read yours, I had a grin. Your arena description was spot on and followed the theme 100%. I could really picture the deciduous arena in my head. The Whomping Willow bit did turn me off of your arena, as it was VERY unrealistic for me. And the whole "tree roots growing over tributes." I didn't care for that. I love the season change concept and the arena shrinking. I loved how the Cornucopia was a tree. The arena wear fit well and the male and female outfits complimented each other well. The Tipula mutt, while written well and an original idea, didn't interest me. Your second muttation, the panther, was much better and brought back the good vibes.

The Verdict

Taking all of my thoughts into account, as well as previous rounds, I have ruled Cal as the winner. Well done Cal! And Max, you were an outstanding contestant. This was hard for me to choose but it came down to who followed the theme the best and who had the best descriptions. You both did exceptionally well. Once again, congratulations Cal!
